Once awhile, we have that craving for steamboat. Lucky enough, we don't need to travel to town now. The Thai Delicious BBQ & Steamboat is pretty decent for the price and also taste awesome.

Let's talk about the main character of the entire scene... the broth. You have the choice of tom yum soup or clear broth. And sadly, you can only choose one, unless you grab a bigger table that has two stove, which requires you to order two sets or more. The broth are kept hot in a charcoal pot.

As for the food, you will need to order it in set. Set A is enough for two persons. And we always go for the tom yum broth because the soup is fragrant and sweet. It keeps us crave for more.

The taste is definitely worth paying for. But we think the quantity of food may not be enough for big eaters. You have options to add on whatever you wish. Just grab it from the fridge, but be sure to ask for the price first (RM3, RM5 or RM9).

Hands down, the best thing to try is to barbecue the bacon until it is crispy. Did we mention how awesome the piping hot tom yum soup is? We didn't bother to go for the clear broth because the tom yum is sooooooo good.

One down side of this place is the table setting. When weather is fine, the tables are spread across the front of the shop under the sky. However, any sign of rain will ruin your al fresco dinner. The shop is non-ventilated, so it can be stuffy to sit indoor. Anyway, when it rains is when we crave for tom yum steamboat right?

[Melaka] Sky Deli Restaurant, The Shore

  • Rating: 2 out of 5
  • Price range: RM8 - RM60
  • Halal
  • Ambiance: Restaurant
  • Style of cooking: Western/Fusion/Local
  • Address: 42nd Flr, The ShoreMelaka 75300, Malaysia

The Sky Deli Restaurant at The Shore opened its door two years ago. It is right next to The Shore Observation deck entrance and above the Pampas Sky Dining. For first timer, it is rather difficult to locate the lift to access to the Sky Deli. Make sure to watch out for the information center and ask for direction.

As soon as you reached the top, you're first greeted with the panoramic view of the Straits of Melaka and diamontes of lights from other buildings below. It is a breathtaking view. We suggest to go there just before sunset to catch the spectacular view and the transition between day and night.

The restaurant has a large dining area, which can be catered for private events. The place gives a romantic vibe due to the low lighting and cozy ambiance.

As for the food, there is nothing interesting. You will get the usual pasta, fish & chips, sandwiches, etc. There is no star dish that attracted our attention. Most of the steak, grilled and seafood are taken off the menu, which we assumed lack of response from the diners.

Although the menu sounds pretty mediocre and average, the taste of the food is also the same. They aren't bad, edible, but nothing to shout about.

Wild mushroom soup

Seafood pasta

Aglio olio

Fish & chips

Chicken Maryland

Turkey ham croissant

Chicken teriyaki rice
Overall, the place is extremely beautiful for a special occasion celebration. Otherwise, don't expect much from the food. For better food, Pampas would be a better choice.

[Melaka] Navy Cafe @ Jalan Hang Kasturi

  • Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Price range: RM8 - RM30
  • Pork-free
  • Ambiance: Cafe
  • Style of cooking: Western/Fusion/Local
  • Address: 5, Jalan Hang Kasturi, Melaka
  • Business hour: 9AM - 6PM; Closed on Monday

The Navy Cafe has been on our list for awhile. We've been holding back visiting the place because it is right on the shore of Jonker Street which is rather touristy for locals like us. After the first visit, we are sure to come back for the food. This round we manage to get some small bites, shaved ice and drinks for a quick meet up.

Bloody Mary is a blend of beetroot and banana from their fruit cocktail range. For a healthier choice, we do recommend you to ditch the coffee and go for the fruit drinks. The drinks are made fresh upon order and the fruits are fresh as well (yes, we can tell it's fresh from the color and taste of the drinks).

The shaved ice series is a new take of ice kacang/cendol. We had to have the coconut gula melaka version to support the local heritage in Melaka. It tasted very much like cendol, except there is no green thing in it. The coconut ice cream on the top serves as a refreshing dessert.

For the bites, we went for Tom Yum Popcorn Chicken and Sweet Potato Fries. The Tom Yum Popcorn Chicken is an explosive taste of Thai every bite. The savory taste has us asking for more. And the Sweet Potato Fries are something out of the ordinary.

The cafe has a lofi vibes, very Instagramable for those of you who are social media savvy. Located in a quiet street adjacent from Jonker Street, you can find this cafe next to Limau-Limau.
